Eklingji Temple Udaipur – Sacred Shrine of Lord Shiva

Eklingji Temple, also known as Eklingnath Temple, is one of the most famous and revered temples in Rajasthan. Located in Kailashpuri (Eklingji town), about 22 km north of Udaipur on National Highway 8, this ancient shrine is dedicated to Lord Shiva, the presiding deity of the Mewar rulers.

The temple was originally built in 734 AD by Bappa Rawal, the founder of the Mewar dynasty, and has since been regarded as the family deity of the Maharanas of Mewar. Over centuries, the temple has been renovated and expanded, showcasing stunning examples of Maru-Gurjara style architecture with intricately carved pillars, beautifully sculpted walls, and a towering four-faced black marble idol of Lord Shiva representing Trimurti (Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh).
